Car Exterior Daily Maintenance That Is Often Overlooked

Car Exterior Daily Maintenance

Having a vehicle, especially a car that is well-maintained inside and out, is certainly our pride, confidence wherever we go. Not only does it stay 'glowing' on the outside, but it's also super comfortable inside, it doesn't matter even if it's in the class of an elegant car, if it's well cared for, everyone will like it.

Some basic exterior treatments such as diligently washing are the most common things, even if there is time and money for treatment at the salon can be done. But even so, for those of us who have never been to a salon or car detailing, here are other things that should not be missed for maintenance, even if parts need to be replaced.

Surprisingly, we actually know this part every day but are often overlooked. Anything, let's point to things that are easy to see

1. Wiper Rubber

Wiper Rubber. The water wiper section on the windshield and rear of the car is usually known as this wiper, there is a rubber part that is black and elongated. This rubber is in charge of sweeping the water on the glass surface.

Over time the elasticity and work of the wiper rubber are getting less and less optimal. Frequent exposure to heat will accelerate the life of the wiper rubber and require replacement. After washing the car, take some time to check whether this part of the rubber is still flexible and intact or not.

2. Lamp

Because the position is behind the brake lights, turn signal lights, reverse lights, and license plate lights, we rarely check if maybe one of them is dead. Checking is also very easy, we can see it directly, through the reflection of the wall, or ask other people for help to see it.

My advice is if only one part dies, replace it immediately. This is very important because it is directly related to the safety factor of ourselves and others, especially the driver behind us who is careless or is not focused, so we can know where we are going to maneuver.

3. Close Tires

The part that is very easy to see and check is the valve cap. Although it looks trivial, it turns out that the valve cap is very important to help maintain the stability of the psi of the air in the tire, especially when the car is at high speed or in extreme temperatures.

The existence of a valve cap, in addition to minimizing the air that can come out because the rubber valve may have leaked the tire valve, now also supports the appearance, even now there is a valve cap that also functions as a sensor for air pressure and tire temperature. The worst thing is if there is an officer ticketing you on the grounds that the car tires are not equipped with valve caps.

4. Body Panel

Checking each side of the car body panel and car body grout also needs to be done at certain times. We don't know the condition of the car when we live in the parking lot or on the road, things beyond our knowledge can happen.

The most sensitive part is that there are scratches on the sides of certain panels due to friction, bumps, and even collisions, which causes the car paint to look bad or even deformed. Scratches under normal circumstances can be tricked by doing simple polishing.

While the uneven grout of the body panels can reduce the appearance of the car and there are indications that repair marks may have been caused by a hard impact. The factory default grout that is uneven due to these extremes usually lowers the selling price of the car as well.

5. Muffler

What should not be missed now is to look at the condition and position of the car's exhaust, whether there are parts that are not suitable and changes occur due to the age of the car that is quite old.

The muffler that moves easily from its place is rusty and even has a hole in the neck of the exhaust that must be replaced immediately. Exhaust that often moves due to loose from the hook will be at risk of coming off the road and endangering other people. If it is not immediately replaced, the car will be slow and waste gas due to a leaking exhaust.

6. Footstep

Check the footing, footstep, and towing. Under certain conditions the footing may have started to scratch a lot of footwear and even have 'deep wounds' due to the corners of the paint peeling off, this is very unsightly. For this reason, before this happens further, you should add sheets such as sill plates so that the footing remains protected.

The footstep and rear towing also need to be checked whether they are still firmly supported, whether there are parts that are starting to rust, also check the brackets to see if their condition is still safe or not. This is usually found in after-market footstep installations.

7. Emblem

The 3d emblem section, because of its small shape, this section is often overlooked in our daily observations. If the corners of the emblem or vehicle logo are missed, there will be mold or crust that accumulates so that the appearance of the emblem is no longer attractive or maybe even the badge will come off.

Treatment in this section should continue to be carried out because if it is already moldy or crusty it will be difficult to remove because it has a narrow-angle and depth that is difficult to reach by hands in daily care.

8. Spare Tire

The final part of this paper is the spare tire. Honestly, we barely see this part when we don't need it. Even if the spare tire is not used, it is best to check the spare tire, especially the spare tire which is located outside.

At least once every 3 months, lower and check the condition of the tires whether there is a physical change, the tire pressure or not, if there is stagnant water on the tire cover, it should be discarded immediately. A suggestion from my workshop friend is that the spare tire should be filled with nitrogen because the air temperature tends to be stable and makes the tire life longer.

An addition that is no less important is to check the outer spare tire hook for rust or signs of change. Make repairs or replacements because it will be dangerous if the spare tire falls out of place and is dangerous for other motorists.
